Tatkal booking is like a ray of hope to many of those passengers who do not get a confirmed ticket to travel. These are the last minute tickets allotted to a select number of people. The charges on the ticket are only for the actual distance traveled as against the earlier rule of charges for the end-to-end distance of the train travel. If at any point, the number of Tatkal seats allotted remains unused, they move to the passengers of the RAC and waiting list quota.
