Railway Reservation, Seat Availability and Other Services Now Without Paper

With the advent of technology, almost everything from paying bills to making reservations for travel has gone online. Indian Railways has also made railway reservation, seat availability checking and other such facilities available online now.

In the case of a rail ticket booking, both i-tickets, as well as e-ticket bookings, are possible online with complete ease. However, in the case of both these forms of tickets, usage of paper was increasing with the increasing number of passengers every year. Increased usage of paper meant cutting down more trees. This was turning out to be non-friendly to the environment.

In order to save paper, the industry has come up with a brilliant idea of producing virtual reservation messages as travel tickets. The ERS stands for electronic reservation slip, which is the printout of the IRCTC message that appears every time a ticket is reserved. This slip contains all details pertaining to the travel, the number of seats reserved and the concerned passengers.

These virtual messages of ticket reservations are actually the screenshots of the reservation page on the computer, laptop, iPad, and so on. The passenger can produce these screenshots to the TTE and travel without any hassle at all. They serve as the actual boarding passes for one to travel.

The railways of India are thus promoting the noble cause of cutting down the usage of paper and going green. Passengers must also therefore turn to these methods of railway reservation, seat availability, and other travel related services, to have an environmentally friendly world tomorrow.
